As part of my continuing build-up to DVCon India 2015, I recently spoke with folks at VerifWorks, a unique EDA company, a proud “MakeInIndia” company with indigenously developed products for the EDA industry. To me it is a dream come true venture as one of its directors. Listen to Mr. Arvind Algundi, VP of sales & support at VerifWorks and some R&D folks at VerifWorks, and understand his views about DVCon, the industry forecasts etc. Read on to learn more:
[VN] Can you share your experience with DVCon in general please?
[AA] Yes. It’s unique platform for all design and Verification engineers to share their thoughts, listen to latest technological development in this space and utilize their quality time to understand these new concepts. I think DVCON is becoming a very important annual event for DV Engineers.
[VN] What are your thoughts on DVCon-India?
[AA] It’s thrilling to see that DVCon made the entry into India region with last year edition. As one of the attendees, I have seen so much interest in India based DV engineers and also felt very good that lot of companies show cased their product line by having their booths at the event.
[VN] What would like to see/add to DVCon-India?
[AA] There should be more papers, tracks showing the latest technology developments in Verification like Graph Based Verification (GBV), SoC Verification with automatic C-test generation, Portable Stimulus etc. Another important topic I see becoming very common across our customers is the advanced FPGA verification such as early RTL analysis, FPGA performance aware RTL design, Clock Domain Crossing etc. I would like to see DVCon embrace FPGA verification as well.
[VN] Will you be attending DVCon India 2015?
[AA] Yes. Of-course I will be attending this year representing VerifWorks. During DVCon India 2014 we had a partner booth and the response was quite good. This year we are yet to decide to exhibit or not, will take a decision closer to the event.
[VN] Any special comments on DVCon India 2015?
[AA] Make it successful event this year as well.
[VN] How do you find the Design-Verification community in India?
[AA] I am seeing a rapid growth in this sector in India as large chip design companies are hiring/hired DV engineers heavily making it a niche skill set in India chip design industry. With large training companies like CVC providing the in-depth training in niche DV skill sets like SV/UVM/SVA, more number of VLSI engineers are moving/shifting to DV side. So there is large paradigm shift is happening at India VLSI industry turning towards DV domain and this will make DV a hot skilled domain in this part of the world.
[VN] What are your views on this year and next year growth about Semiconductor Industry? India in particular?
[AA] With demand for Mobile handsets, IoT devices and other industrial growth, Semiconductor industry is poised to have big growth for the next 2 years. With almost all major MNC chip design companies in India making their base, India is set to grow very rapidly in this space. With availability of skilled man power with good academic and private institutes support, more and more engineers are opting for niche skills like VLSI and it’s expected to grow rapidly and become a top destination to pursue a career in this domain.
