As part of my continuing build-up to DVCon India 2015, I caught up with Shakeel Jeeawoody, a seasoned EDA expert, currently part of Strategic Alliance – Emulation Division at Mentor Graphics. With vast experience of more than 25 years Mr. Shakeel enjoys a great relationship with various stakeholders of VLSI ecosystem across the globe.

[VN] What are your thoughts on DVCon-India?

[SJ] DVCon in North America (NA) has been very successful and growing every year. This is the second year in India, and I believe there is a real opportunity to exposure the community in India to the latest advancements in verification. The leadership for the conference impresses me with their zest for educating the companies who are interested in bringing growth to the region. The Indian market is poised to become a more significant player in providing technology to the entire verification market.

[VN] What would like to see/add to DVCon-India?

[SJ] When I looked at last year’s proceeding, I saw lots of coverage on ESL, Simulation and AMS verification. What I didn’t see was enough coverage on emulation. A number of industry trends are showing a surge in the use of emulation, especially in NA. It’s clear that big SoCs cannot be verified without emulation.

[VN] That’s dot on target Shakeel, and this year we have a separate tutorial on Emulation, and a separate paper session dedicated to emulation, acceleration and prototyping. So we hope you and your customers will find it very useful indeed!

[VN] Will you be attending DVCon India 2015?

[SJ] Yes. I’m excited about attending DVCon India 2015. It’s a pleasure to see a growing, vibrant community in India. Verification is so important in completing design. With so many significant advancements in verification over the last years, we clearly have a lot to talk about.

[VN] Do you have any special comments on DVCon India?

[SJ] I’d like to congratulate the Program committee on pulling together such strong event, although I believe there would be better attendance if the event was later in the year when there is less vacation time being taken.

[VN] How do you find the Design-Verification community in India?

[SJ] India has a lot of resources in the way of engineers who can make a significant contribution to the verification challenges we face today. To accomplish this it will take continued education with an emphasis on advanced verification technology.

[VN] What are your views on this year and next year growth about Semiconductor Industry? In India in particular?

[SJ] When we look at the Semiconductor industry in general, there have been a lot of mergers and/or acquisitions. This kind of consolidation will bring changes to the way semiconductor and system companies parse the design and verification process. This indicates to me that they will be more apt to adopt advanced technology particularly in the areas of software/hardware verification.

[VN] Pleasure speaking with you Shakeel, look forward to seeing you at the event!
