In this edition of my DVCon India 2015 countdown, I am glad to bring views from Gaurav Jalan, general chair, DVCon India 2015. With deep understanding of the local service industry in India and having worked with rest of DVCon steering committee members during past few months and leading it from the front, Gaurav’s views are very interesting for our audience.

[VN] Can you share your experience with DVCon in general please?

[GJ] DVCon provides an excellent platform for the design and verification community working at all levels i.e. Systems, SoCs or IPs. The conference has been contributing effectively to the semiconductor industry under different names for almost 2 decades till it was named as DVCon 10 years back. It is a perfect forum for discussing ideas, understanding implications, checking alternatives and connecting with the fraternity.

[VN] What are your thoughts on DVCon-India?

[GJ] DVCon came to India last year and the response from the community was overwhelming. It fills a big gap in the local ecosystem that already hosts vendor specific conferences. As an attendee to this conference last year I realized some interesting points that makes this conference stand out. It provides a forum to discuss problems and solutions at a larger level i.e. beyond tool usage. It also brings together the ESL, design and verification community together which is the need of the hour to enable the system designs for future. Finally it enables discussions on existing and upcoming standards i.e. collaborate to compete.

[VN] What would like to see/add to DVCon-India?

[GJ] From the experience of DVCON India 2014, we realized that panel discussions is one area that needs to be added to this event. This year, we have 3 panels covering IoT & Emulation on the DV track along with a panel discussion on ESL aspects. Another item was more time to network and discuss with other participants, for which we have added a Gala dinner to the event. People will get time to connect and celebrate together.

[VN] Will you be attending DVCon India 2015?

[GJ] Ofcourse! And I would strongly recommend the fellow engineers to participate too.

[VN] How do you find the Design-Verification community in India?

[GJ] Design-Verification community has been contributing effectively to the global community for over two decades now. The average experience levels now are mature enough indicating that full ownership of the entire product i.e. definition, design and deliver can be accomplished in India. Conferences like DVCon India further strengthens the ecosystem to take it to the next level.

[VN] What are your views on this year and next year growth about semiconductor industry? India in particular?

[GJ] Semiconductor industry has been growing steadily after a few hiccups in the last decade. After the Smartphone boom, the industry is actively looking for the next big growth element while continuing its quest with the Moore’s law of shrinking geometries. The mood is very positive and the next level of changes are due before the killer application is crowned. India being one of the biggest consumer market would play a crucial role both as a producer and consumer of technology.
